I use Eclipse Galileo for development on Ubuntu amd64, and have never used resin.

Interested in trying out resin, I installed the plugin from http://caucho.com/eclipse

I noticed that a resin.jar file was included in the plugin, and assume that this is the server. (eclipse/plugins/com.caucho.resin.eclipse_4.0.2/lib/resin.jar)

When I create a resin server within eclipse, "/usr/share/resin" is displayed as the resin home dir as default.

Is it recommended to install the resin server (the non-eclipse version)?

Hi,

Yes, you'll need to install Resin separately. The resin.jar is included only for the use of the plugin itself. (It provides clients to talk to the Resin deploy service, among other things.)
