From the coucho download page, I cannot tell if 4.0.3 is stable, or if I should use 3.1.9. Text under "resin professional" does not mention a release, but text under "resin open source" says:

Resin 3.1 Open Source is a great choice for evaluators and open source software distributors and is available under the GNU Public License (GPL).

Can anyone shed light on how to determine which version should be selected? If both are stable, do people use 3.1.x to fit their existing implementation, and 4.x for new implementations?

Hi,

Resin 3.1 is the stable release, meaning it's fit for production and will not receive any new features. Resin 4.0 is technically the development release, meaning if you use any newer, non-standard features, they may be subject to change. However Resin 4.0 is production ready, so you could run a live site with it. Resin 4.0 is also where the Java EE 6 work is being done, so you could begin playing with those features (Servlet 3.0, CDI, etc.) and they'll stay true to the standard.

Thanks for the question,
Emil
