Has anyone ever tried to use the Quercus Java magic to encrypt their PHP sourcecode?

main idea:
1. encrypt your sourcecode for badguys with an offline tool (and pepper and salt)
2. upload encrypted code to server
3. start the encrypted file with a call to a java decrypter
4. any time the server wants to parse the PHP-file it will decrypt it using java
5. everything runs smoothly

I'm not aware of such efforts.
It would be possible, however, I think serving the files would get quite slow.

Also I think people usually don't deploy PHP scripts using Quercus in
an environment which they don't control or someone you can trust controls.

From the site: "Quercus will automatically compile PHP scripts into Java classes for better performance. This is available only in Resin Professional."

You could buy the professional version and ask them for a feature where you compile all your php scripts on one host, then upload the compiled classes to the production servers. It should be quite easy ie. cheap to do.
